On Labor Day, Shanghai welcomed record number of tourists

Labor Day is alternatively known as May Day. In many countries, it’s a public holiday. Shanghai experienced a record number of visitors during the 2021 May Day holiday, as per the recent information

The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, during the holidays of May Day, made important accomplishment in epidemic prevention and control, product supply in cultural and tourism markets, work safety and boosting up consumption through the integration of culture and tourism.

Cultural and tourism sectors kept no stones unturned to create a defense line for the safety of citizens and tourists, watchfully developed a supportive travel atmosphere for the locals and tourists, in the cultural and tourism markets, promoted the recovery of consumption in an energetic manner, and met the quality and safety requirements of Shanghai citizens and visitors to Shanghai in a constant fashion.

As per the tourism big data of Shanghai, the city during the May Day holiday, received 16.889 million tourists, up 138.88% year on year from 2020.

From other provinces and cities, the number of tourists reached 6.249,600, accounting for 37% of the total number of tourists.

According to UnionPay’s consumption big data, tourist spending during the May Day holiday was about ￥40 billion (approx. 6.2 billion USD).
