Despite its own allure, cities can occasionally become a touch too chaotic for the soul.

So what better time than this US Labor Day Weekend to take a break from work and reward yourself with a weekend getaway?

Here are a few sought-after escapes from New York City’s hustle and bustle that could be real food for soul food over the Labor Day Weekend.

Hudson Valley

Colonists seeking artistic excellence were attracted to the region because it was endowed with beauty that rivals the English countryside. A 2.5-hour journey separates the city from Hudson, NY, which is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River.

The valley, which has been designated as a National Heritage Area, is rich in natural beauty, culture, and a developing food and farmer’s market scene.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a fantastic weekend destination from New York City for history enthusiasts. It is a city where art is appreciated and celebrated. Unique public art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, and others show how much Philadelphia adores celebrating its arts. There are several interesting city attractions here that have long captivated the people.

A visit to Philadelphia would be incomplete without indulging in one of their renowned cheesesteaks. Majority of visitors prefer Geno’s or Pat’s, that are located across the street in South Philadelphia, although there are hundreds to choose from.

Catskills

A trip to Catskills can almost be considered as a mandatory requirement, especially for New Yorkers. A part of the Appalachian Mountain range in southeast New York, this is an ideal location for a tranquil girls’ trip, a romantic escape, or even a family vacation.

There are around 100 mountain summits there with stunning views. 35 of them are higher than 3,500 feet, with Slide Mountain being the tallest at 4,180 feet.

Montauk

Montauk, a popular tourist location with six state parks, is three hours’ drive from New York City. It claims to hold more world records for saltwater fishing than any other port in the world, making fishing one of its specialties. It is an intriguing journey, especially in the fall when the mountains are illuminated by the vibrant hues of autumnal foliage.

Many Long Islanders refer to Montauk as “The End” for its rich legacy. Its positioning at the easternmost point of both the island and New York State explains this.

Mohonk Mountain House

Nestled on the shores of the magnificent Mohonk Lake, the Mohonk Mountain House offers an unmatched experience of boat trips on the lake, hiking, and “forest bathing.” It has the appearance of a Victorian castle from outside. The idea behind shinrin-yoku, as it is known in Japan, is to travel around the forest and immerse oneself in its sights, sounds, and sensations while focusing on these aspects, which improves one’s physical and emotional health.

Fall is the ideal time to visit as it is during this time of the year tourists can best explore this place.

Harriman Park

Harriman Park, with its 200 miles of hiking trails, beaches, camping grounds, lakes, and a seemingly limitless variety of species, demands more than just a day trip from New York Metropolis. The main lake in the park, Lake Sebago, is where you should go if you want to go swimming, boating, or camping.

Even the 18-mile section of the renowned Appalachian Trail that passes through Harriman can be hiked.

Niagara Falls

The combined flow rate of three falls is the highest of any waterfall in the world, which is also responsible for lending it its spectacular, otherworldly appearance. Every year, 30 million tourists come to see this breathtaking show of nature in Niagara Falls.

A little more than a 6 hours’ drive from NYC, head over to this world famous wonder that everyone must experience once in a lifetime.

Mystic

Since its founding in 1929, Mystic Seaport has grown to become both the top maritime museum in the country and one of the best-of-its-kind in the world.

One of Connecticut’s most quaint seaside communities, the Mystic Seaport has a rich history to its credit and is brimming with New England charm. It is also a great destination to visit in the months of summer and Fall when hoards of family-friendly activities are awaiting you!

Lake Placid

One of the best getaways in New York is undoubtedly Lake Placid. This picture-perfect destination is an excellent year-round vacation spot. Besides its fascinating vegetation, there are many opportunities for skiing, kayaking and other thrilling activities.

Lake Placid is also a favourite hideaway of adventure lovers for its rocky summits and Olympic Ski Jumping Complex.

Sleepy Hollow

Last but not the least, Sleepy Hollow gained notoriety for its folktale about the headless horseman. But, it continues to be a well-liked weekend retreat from New York City to enjoy the macabre and supernatural.

The community, which is part of Mount Pleasant, is home to a number of hiking trails, artwork, and historical views.
